Weíve all had times when we just couldnít get to sleep. Maybe a problem at work is keeping us up or we had a fight with a family member. These episodes which are usually short term and last only a night or two are completely normal. However, if you have trouble sleeping night after night, this can really affect your life and can actually be a serious condition known as an anxiety sleep disorder
When your sleeping problems are due to anxiety, it can be very difficult to overcome them. Sometimes the disorder can be so severe that you cannot sleep at all. As you can imagine this can cause all kinds of problems at home and at work and can even result in other health issues and can actually be dangerous if you are driving or operating machinery during the day with no sleep at night.
But an anxiety sleep disorder is not the only thing that can cause you to lose sleep. Another type of sleeping disorder is when someone suffers from what is called post traumatic stress syndrome. This is where the person begins to feel anxious right after having experienced a very traumatic incident like a rape or an accident of some kind.
These types of events come back to haunt a person time and time again and manifest themselves as nightmares. It can get so bad that you are afraid to go to sleep and you become very fearful and end up in a pattern of not being able to sleep.
There is still another kind of sleeping disorder that is known as an obsessive compulsive disorder where a person who sufferers with it will begin to have thoughts of rituals that are very uncontrollable and will persist even if the sufferer is fully aware that the thoughts are very harmless and senseless. It can lead a sufferer to believe that they will not be able to get any sleep because of the concern that they will have nightmares.
If you are someone who suffers from anxiety sleep disorder, then there are a few things you can do to start getting some rest at night. First of all, you will want to see if you can remove the cause of your anxiety or talk to your doctor about medicine. Some people do fine with natural treatments such as meditation, yoga and aromatherapy. No matter which solution is the right one for you, you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to seek treatment right away.
